SPAN315: Intro Translation Span/Eng
Description:
Students perform introductory translation assignments from Spanish to English and vice versa. They develop an understanding of translation theory through reading and class discussion and come to understand communicative translation and compare it to a direct, word-for-word approach. Problematic grammatical, discursive, and pragmatic issues are analyzed and the grammar of Spanish is reviewed in detail. (Prereq: SPAN 202)

In this course, we translated different texts, letters, documents and short stories from English to Spanish and vice versa. We learned different techniques and methods of translation that were very helpful to be able to do the assignments. We learned to translate from a source-language to a target-language with convening the true meaning of the text, in in all its subtleties, so that the translation is inherently adapted to its target audience and localized for demographics, culture, and subject matter. It is one of the most interesting courses I took at CSUMB.
